Dear Parents and Guardians,
The children have settled well into their new classroom routines and have been very good at following the HSE guidelines. Classes have started the term with some revision work and they have made a start on their new class curriculum.
Department for Education guidelines contained in the Roadmap for the full Return to School advised schools the following regarding curriculum;
Schools will be encouraged to allow time for pupils to develop the relationships necessary so that they are available and ready to participate in a meaningful way with their learning. There is a focus in the documentation on welcoming junior infants to schools and a wide range of resources and support materials have been provided by the Department of Education as well as the Department of Children, Disability, Equality and Integration to support this group.
The guidance outlines the learning approaches which schools should take and the need to allow for revisiting and revising of areas of the curriculum to reinforce and consolidate learning. Schools will also be required to reprioritise certain areas of the curriculum, especially during the initial weeks of the first term, to give greater time and attention to areas such as Social, Personal and Health Education, Physical Education, Language and Mathematics. It is intended that as schools form comprehensive pictures of where pupils are in their learning they will work towards a more typical curriculum plans.
As you are aware children did not receive homework over the past two weeks. A whole school approach to homework is currently being reviewed. In the meantime, the children will be encouraged to complete oral homework tasks. Teachers will send homework via the Aladdin Connect App. Homework can consist of age appropriate reading, age appropriate number work and spelling (oral work). We will continue with this until the end of September.
